Sriprapha Petcharamesree is a faculty member at the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University in Thailand.
She received her Ph.D. (Doctorat) in international politics from the University of Paris-X Nanterre, France. Sriprapha was awarded, in 2017, an Honorary Doctor by the University of Oslo, Norway for her contribution to human rights. From 2009-2012, she has served as the Representative of Thailand to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR).
Her first formal contact with human rights works started when she served as a social worker at the UNICEF’s Emergency Operations for Cambodian Refugees. Since 1990s she has been active in human rights field both among academic community and human rights advocates/activists at national, regional and international levels. Since 2012 she has been the Co-Chair of the Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism. Her recent works focus, among others, on ASEAN human rights mechanisms and human rights in ASEAN, issues of citizenship, migration, statelessness, human rights education and human rights in international relations, and rule of law.
Since 2009, she has been serving as Convener of the ASEAN University Network – Human Rights Education (AUN –HRE). She has been Chair of the Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research and Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia (SHAPE-SEA) Program between 2015-2019.
