Business and Human Rights Dialogue
ABOUT THE DIALOGUE
The 2018 AICHR Interregional Dialogue: Sharing Good Practices on Business and Human Rights (Interregional Dialogue on BHR) aims at creating a platform for exchange of views and practical lessons on how various stakeholders including regional human rights mechanisms, ASEAN sectoral bodies, national human rights institutions and national government agencies play a role in implementing or support the implementation of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights adopted by the United Nations in 2011. The three-day Dialogue will bring some 130 participants from ASEAN, other regional human rights mechanisms, NHRIs, CSOs and experts.
- In general, it will enhance the understanding of where business model and investments are heading, including the monitoring and dispute handling mechanisms are being developed across the world, including within the ASEAN Economic Community.
- The dialogue will also enhance the understanding on how business practices can cause adverse impacts on human rights and discuss the ways and means in place or needed to be developed to mitigate or prevent them. More particularly, it will contribute to the implementation of the ASEAN Vision 2025 and its blueprints that seek to mainstream human rights across the three pillars of the ASEAN Community. In regards to the ASEAN Economic Community, the 2018 Dialogue will bring to the fore various issues that the AEC has already included on its agenda, including sustainable economic development and inclusive business.
- In terms of cooperation and engagement, the Dialogue will serve as a key platform on BHR among representatives, practitioners and experts from regional human rights mechanisms, ASEAN sectoral bodies, national human rights institutions, government agencies and CSOs with consultative status with the AICHR. Greater and mutual understanding on BHR will strengthen the effectiveness of promotion and protection of human rights that are a crosscutting issue and responsibility of all stakeholders.
